As was the case with “Baumfragmente”, Ruben Maria uses cardboard for “Industrie Tree”. Pressed into oblong staffs and mounted on a platform, these long sticks become an abstract forest that harks back to its most elementary form. The uniform sculpture emits an industrial atmosphere – contrary to the actual handwork that was put into the sculpture. “Industrie Tree” is variable and mobile, yet its material does not allow for wet- or coldness. These industrial trees cannot survive in nature; they become a symbol for the irreversible man-made transformation of natural materials and habitats.
